Mount Carmel - College for Girls

Message from the Principal

At COLA Highgate Hill we are committed to providing a first class education for our boys and girls. We have high aspirations for all of our students and believe that education is the passport to your child’s future. We have high expectations and a proven track record of academic excellence. City of London Academies provide a quality education with an outstanding record in nurturing confidence and developing our students to exceed their potential. We have forged strong business links over many years; one such link, Pinsent Masons LLP, also helps us to support and advise our students on post-16 education, careers events and academic mentoring.

We achieve continued success because learning at COLA Highgate Hill is an exciting experience of exploration and discovery. The curriculum offers a range of subjects and pathways for all our students to enable them to succeed. We understand that every student has different motivations and interests and our aim is to help everyone to develop their talents wherever they lie. A comprehensive team provides additional support for those students with special educational needs and English as an additional language.

We expect a high level of commitment from all students both inside and outside the classroom. Away from the classroom The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme has proved to be highly popular, enabling students to develop vital leadership skills. There are numerous other clubs and opportunities that run before and after school as well as at weekends. Individual and group achievements are recognised and celebrated on a daily basis in form time, assemblies and in subject classes. Our elected Student Council gives our students a real voice within the academy.

All students who join us in Year 7 are given a free violin, viola, cello or flute and receive free music tuition for the first 3 years of their education with us (courtesy of the Music in Secondary Schools Trust.) Our newly formed orchestra has now playing in venues such as the Barbican and Goldsmith College.

We are a small friendly academy where everyone knows each other; a purposeful and supportive community in which all students can enjoy their learning and eventually leave us as well educated young men and women with a passion for learning. I look forward to welcoming you to our community at one of our open events and I am confident that you will leave feeling inspired.

Ms N Haynes,

Our overarching vision is to found an academy which will exemplify ‘Outstanding’ secondary practice, evidenced by excellent attainment and progress for all pupils. From the outset we will want to ensure that the academy is underpinned by shared values and ambitions so that this new member of our educational family can be graded as ‘Outstanding’ within three years.

Each of our existing secondary academies provide learning experiences that reflect the characteristics for which the City is known around the world:

  • High expectations, aspirations, excellence and a belief that all can succeed
  • Contributing creativity, innovation and enterprise alongside tradition and heritage
  • Developing people who are confident, resilient, compassionate and democratic
